The 2004 Oklahoma
Global Education Consortium Conference is dedicated to the educators of
the present and future. Activities will begin on Thursday, September 30,
with a free pre-conference workshop on MERLOT (Multimedia Educational
Resources for Learning and Online Teaching). The MERLOT workshop is
being organized by Phil Moss, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic
Affairs, Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. It will highlight
the infusion of technology as a major educational resource in Oklahoma.
This workshop should appeal to all college disciplines.

The regular
conference which requires OGEC registration will begin with an informal
luncheon of BBQ cuisine followed by the Plenary I session and a speaker
on Global Education.

The afternoon
breakout sessions have been organized by several colleges. The 14
different sessions will feature various disciplines, programs, and a
variety of global awareness activities, as well as information
concerning international students.

The Thursday evening
dinner session features Student Awards and business and industry CEO
presentations on “Globalism and Economic Development.”

Friday will open
with Faculty and Staff Awards followed by a forum of international
university educators who will present information on partnership
opportunities that can lead to grant funding. The next session features
“The Oklahoma Plan to Build Global Connections” abroad.

Plenary IV, “Global
Assessments” will feature reports by college presidents on global
activities and projects at individual colleges. Friday’s luncheon
speaker will address “Funding Resources” for global activities.

For those who are
interested in a more in-depth meeting with international educators
(Mexico and Canada), a round table meeting is scheduled at 2:15pm on
Friday. Those who plan to take part in this session should indicate so
we can schedule facilities accordingly. International educators will
bring materials from their universities and US educators who are
interested in future partnerships should also bring materials.

Exhibits will
feature materials of interest to educators.

Registration will
include two lunches, one dinner, and a ticket to the Signature Symphony
on Friday night (8:00pm), “The Latin Fiesta” with guest artists.
Participants have the option of buying an extra ticket for a guest.
Those who cannot stay for the Friday night event will be able to attend
the dress rehearsal on Thursday evening.

All conference
activities except for the Signature Symphony will take place on the
ground floor of the new Tulsa Community College Southeast Campus Student
Union building. Driving and parking instructions have been posted on
the website. Those who are flying in should contact
lwalker@tulsacc.edu to make arrangements for transportation to the
hotel and the conference site at 81st & Hiway 169.
