English as a Second Language


Colleges wishing to establish an ESL program should request certification from the Oklahoma Chancellor's Office. The following Oklahoma colleges presently maintain a state approved ESL program.

Oklahoma City Community College offers ESL courses and programs of study for immigrants, international students, working professionals, and all others who want to improve their knowledge of English for personal or professional development.

The ESL program provides a friendly, personal setting. The program's goal is to help students learn to communicate fluently and study effectively in English and to gain a greater understanding of American culture.

The ESL program offers courses in grammar, listening, speaking, reading, writing, and TOEFL preparation. Classes are offered at the beginning, intermediate, high intermediate, and advanced levels.

ESL program features include: academic skills, communication skills, accent reduction, computer-aided instruction, free E-mail and Internet, cross-cultural training, cultural field trips, program orientation, counseling and placement, part-time and full-time options, as well as day and evening classes.
